Long time supporter of a project called Cacti. A simple yet powerful NOC dashboard monitoring system. It it a Swiss Army knife for system monitoring and open source very much like Nagios! I contributed to a plug-in module called intropage, it gave a summary of how your environment is performing. The display of the graphs was not that nice and did not reflect the look and feel of the rest of the Cacti system, they were functioning yet crude. Delving deep into php, I re-wrote some of the code which had to be written In pure php before the maintainer would accept the code into his project. It made the graphs prettier and the maintainer adopted the code in future releases.
